LED Streetlight Conversion

City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Evari, in collaboration with the City of Pittsburgh and TEN (The Efficiency Network, Inc.), executed the City of Pittsburgh LED Streetlight Conversion project to enhance the public Right of Way. The initiative focused on improving efficiency, sustainability, and equity in the existing lighting infrastructure.

Evari conducted a meticulous review and assessment of diverse data sets, including Cyclomedia and City of Pittsburgh records. Technical expertise was applied to thoroughly review the Streetlight Database (SLDB), which lacked approximately 20% of assets and 20% of required attribute data. Enriching the dataset with details such as location, type, height, and ownership played a crucial role in shaping the project's trajectory.

Using the EvariLUX tool, lighting analyses visualized and modeled different scenarios. Collaborating closely with the City and TEN, Evari integrated existing data to compare three competing manufacturers. This informed the City's decision based on lighting design and product quality rather than solely selecting the lowest bidder. A WebGIS dashboard was created to document pre-conversion conditions for future reference.

Photometric calculations and EvariLUX tool results seamlessly integrated into project documents, facilitating digital distribution. Evari provided continuous digital support to ensure a smooth streetlight conversion progression.

In collaboration with the City, Evari defined illumination parameters and technical specifications for lighting equity. A systematic approach considered factors such as council districts, crime rates, collision data, social vulnerability, and population density. The project unfolded with a map-based, phased installation, addressing areas with potential disadvantages.

Ongoing updates to the WebGIS dashboard, Cartegraph integration, and phased conversion plans were implemented. Meticulous tracking of operational and equity metrics provided insights into installation progress, potential energy savings, and overall project costs. Evari offered valuable recommendations and support for addressing specific challenges during construction.

The City of Pittsburgh LED Streetlight Conversion project ushered in a digitally advanced, equitable, and energy-efficient lighting system. Grounded in data-driven insights and cutting-edge technology, this initiative enhanced public safety and set a precedent for sustainable urban development and community-centric infrastructure enhancement in the dynamic city of Pittsburgh.
