Great Redwood Trail Valuation Map Digitization and GIS Integration
Great Redwood Trail Agency
Evari assisted the Great Redwood Trail Agency (GRTA) and the State Coastal Conservancy (SCC) in georectifying and digitizing over 130 historic Valuation and Station maps for their rail-to-trail initiative. Previously, the SCC had only PDF scans of these historic maps with no spatial reference, making it difficult to accurately identify parcel boundaries and existing infrastructure.
By digitizing the maps, Evari enabled the SCC to freely share, analyze, and update asset information, significantly expanding their capabilities. Evari also integrated related documentation—such as deeds, licenses, and leases—into the system to streamline access to correlated information and improve operational efficiency.
In addition, Evari supported the development of a Field Map application and Avenza integration to enhance fieldwork capabilities. Given that much of the historic rail line runs through remote areas of Northern California, Evari created offline-accessible versions of the maps and provided user-friendly reference guides. These tools empowered the SCC team to tailor their applications to site-specific needs, despite limitations related to operating systems, storage capacity, internet connectivity, and cost constraints.
