Evari GIS Consulting, in collaboration with Willdan Group, Inc., lead a citywide streetlight audit to establish a comprehensive inventory of San Diego’s lighting infrastructure. This foundational effort is designed to support future planning initiatives, improve safety, and enhance operational efficiency.

The investment grade audit (IGA) involved a large-scale field audit of over 50,000 streetlights, capturing critical attributes such as fixture type, wattage, pole material, mounting height, and conditions issues. Evari conducted extensive data validation and quality control, ensuring the accuracy of the dataset.

The data collected in the IGA will directly inform upcoming phases of the project, where technical analysis, scenario modeling, and strategic planning will be conducted. These next steps will focus on optimizing fixture placement, refining lighting designs, and integrating adaptive lighting strategies to balance safety, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

As part of the long-term vision, Evari is working closely with city officials to ensure that the new streetlighting plan aligns with San Diego’s broader transportation and environmental goals. The final deliverables will include actionable recommendations, cost-benefit analyses, and digital tools to support data-driven decision-making for the city’s future lighting investments.
