San Diego LED Lighting Conversion

Initially subcontracting to Southern Contracting, Evari GIS Consulting completed a $16.03M project to convert 34,600 LS2 cobra head street lights from HPS and LPS to 12 different GE induction fixtures across 325 square miles in the City of San Diego. The project was in compliance with groundbreaking dark sky initiatives where 3000K fixtures were installed within a 30-35 mile buffer of local observatories. Evari reconciled data from various inventories, a service that was required to meet criteria for collection of energy efficiency rebates. The data is shared via a read-only website, enabling the City and contractors real-time insight and transparency throughout the project lifecycle.

Upon successful completion of two separate competitively bid street light conversion projects (for which Evari GIS Consulting provided GIS support as a subcontractor to Southern Contracting and won an Exemplary Systems Award) the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department contracted directly with Evari to provide staff augmentation. Evari GIS is in the third year of this annually recurring contract. Under this contract, Evari provides Request for Proposal (RFP) Development Support, Intelligent Node Deployment Support, and a Comprehensive Curbside Parking Audit. This parking data will be incorporated into the City's new City IQ Nodes, which will be used to improve parking conditions in San Diego. 

 
 
The city of San Diego is deploying the world's largest smart city Internet of Things sensor platform with help from Current and AT&T. San Diego will collect real-time sensor data across the city using Current's CityIQ™ sensor node technology which will be installed on 3,200 of the city's street lights.
 
 

Data Collection, Enterprise GIS, and Data Management for the largest U.S. Energy Utility Company

Evari GIS Consulting is the prime contractor under a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract in support of PG&E’s LED Streetlight Upgrade Program. Evari is providing enterprise GIS services to support initial geocoding, field audit, outreach, installation and data updates to acquire new rates. Evari staff is field-checking approximately 300,000 municipal and PG&E-owned street lights and supporting installation of 160,000 street lights across PG&E’s 70,000 square mile territory. Evari supports over 50 named users, including management, field audit review, and 3 distinct installation subcontractors.

Evari provides on-site training and as-needed, on-call support for all users. The system leverages PG&E’s Enterprise License Agreement (ELA), is load balanced within the Amazon Cloud, and leverages SqlServer and ArcGIS Server (Enterprise Advanced). Through the end of 2016 the project saved more than 25 million kilowatt hours of energy use per year. This project is on budget, on schedule, and ongoing.

Obstacles overcome include determining lights' rate schedules in the field and maintaining a cohesive approach across a geographic area larger than most utilities (from Redbluff to Bakersfield).

Data Collection, Management, and Controls Integration for the largest street lighting conversion project in the United States.

Chicago Lighting

Evari is providing enterprise GIS services for the largest street lighting upgrade project in the United States. This includes atlas and data reconciliation, field audit services, reporting throughout the audit, integration with Silver Spring Network’s adaptive lighting control system, and final data submission. Additionally, Evari is responsible for developing a standard operating procedure for assessing lighting infrastructure conditions, and carrying out this assessment for all infrastructure. Evari staff is field-checking approximately 327,800 street lights throughout the city of Chicago. This project is on budget, on schedule, and ongoing.

Obstacles overcome include completing field work in high-crime hotspots and maintaining the highest levels of accuracy during accelerated timeline. Evari also exceeded their commitment to hiring more than 60% Minority Business Enterprise/Women Business Enterprise (MBE/WBE) staff.

Comprehensive Street Light Inventory and Assessment with Data Reconciliation

Evari GIS Consulting was the prime contractor, responsible for conducting a detailed field inventory and assessment of existing street lighting in the City of Santa Fe, NM. Evari collected GIS data detailing the streetlights’ location, relevant characteristics, and condition. Upon completion the assessment, Evari provided the city with a spreadsheet, updated GIS database, and reconciled utility data.

Energy Saving Street Light Conversion Project for the City of Phoenix

Evari GIS Consulting was subcontracted to complete the initial audit, data management, and custom web development for a 100,000+ street light conversion project. The project finished on time over the course of 204 days. The project was on budget, on schedule, and ongoing.

In addition to collecting GIS attribute data for all of the City’s street light assets across two different utilities (SRP and APS), Evari continues to support LED installation efforts. Evari has provided Ameresco installers with tablets and a mobile application with which they can updated street light GIS data in real-time, keeping project managers, City staff, and other key stakeholders informed of project progress. Street Light Conversion Project for the Oregon Department of Transportation

  • Client: Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT)

  • Prime: Ameresco, Inc.

  • Timeline: 3 months

Evari GIS Consulting was subcontracted to complete a field audit and data management for 10K+ street light assets. The street lights were owned by ODOT, City of Portland, and Trimet, among other agencies. The project finished on time and on budget.

Evari GIS overcame the challenge of auditing street lights in high traffic areas, which often lacked a shoulder. They also rectified tunnel lighting data onto a GIS using as-builts. Evari is set to support installation efforts in the future when ODOT is ready to proceed with that effort.

 
 

Investment Grade Audit and LED Lighting Conversion for the City of Tucson

Evari GIS Consulting completed data reconciliation, field audit, and innovative design of over 20,000 street light conversions across the City of Tucson, Arizona.

The data collection and analysis resulted in a guaranteed energy savings of $180,000/month in electrical costs to the city while also reducing the overall lumens by 62%. Evari GIS Consulting worked closely with Ameresco’s energy engineers to calculate replacement fixtures based upon road type (intersection or road segment), model, type, wattage of the existing fixture, roadway classification, lane numeration, light layout (staggered, opposite, median mounted or on one side of the road), average pole spacing, and whether the light fixture was over a median or right turn lane. Once the field audit, baseline energy calculations, and guaranteed energy savings calculations were completed, Evari provided an installation support system and as-needed on-call support throughout the installation, in addition to providing final data products.

This project also included an aggressive energy efficiency and dark skies compliance priorities. This project is ongoing, although the majority of Evari’s project responsibilities have been completed.

Obstacles Overcame: Not one-to-one proposed fixture, field auditing in extreme heat, additional data collection and design work and auditing vast areas without streetlights.
